Out of failure, success is born

The Santa Fe Railroad company, in need of wood for railroad ties, planted the hills of the San Deguito River Valley with Eucalyptus, later finding the wood was unsuitable for its intended purpose. This turn of the century corporate blunder paved the way for a planned "gentlemens ranch", known today as Rancho Santa Fe.
